Bolt Action Remedy by JJ Hensley: a review by Fran Joyce

Bolt Action Remedy is the new action thriller by JJ Hensley. It is his  fourth novel and the first book  in a new  series featuring Trevor Galloway, a former Pittsburgh narcotics detective.

Galloway heads to Central Pennsylvania to investigate a year old cold case involving the murder of Peter Lanskard, a wealthy businessman. Lanskard was felled by a sniper’s bullet moments after exiting his limousine in front of his mansion while surrounded by his personal security team.

Over the years, Lanskard racked up a formidable list of enemies including disgruntled former employees, environmentalists, and business rivals. However,  only an exceptional sniper who is also an expert skier could have made the shot and gotten off the property undetected by  Lanskard’s security team. For Galloway, finding an assassin with this particular skill set should have been easy.  When he learns the adjacent property is a biathlon training camp, his list of suspects starts to take shape, but there is also compelling evidence to suggest Lanskard could have ordered his own murder.

To complicate matters, Galloway has a knack for ticking people off, and he’s a recovering addict. Can he find the truth before he relapses or gets himself killed? You’ll have to pick up a copy of Hensley’s book to find out.

Galloway is a relatable character. He’s flawed, but a survivor. Hensley has given us just enough detail to make us believe life has dealt Galloway a lousy hand, and Galloway has the perfect mixture of snark and determination to keep us pulling for him.

JJ Hensley has a degree in administration of justice and his M.S. in criminal justice administration. He is a former police officer and a former Special Agent with the U.S. Secret Service. His other books ,  Resolve, Measure Twice, and Chalk’s Outline are available in book stores and on Amazon.com. You can also  order copies directly from the Amazon links on our Author Page.
