Rumpled hair and morning stubble
Eyes adjusting to the light.
Waking up is such a struggle
Abandoning dreams without a fight.
Your kiss aimed toward my lips
Lands somewhere near my ear.
Your hands find my hips
I laugh as you pull me near.
My cell phone screeches in protest
Warning there’s no time
For morning pleasure or further rest
No matter how sublime.
Determined to avoid trouble,
I mumble an apology and stumble toward the shower.
But, your rumpled hair and morning stubble
Lure me back to bed for another precious hour.
