"Dancing with the Sun:" A Poem by Fran Joyce
Dancing among the clouds rejoicing
On wings of feathers and wax.
Tempting fate by soaring
Ignoring the Sun’s attacks.
He laughed at the Earthlings toiling,
Below him with bent backs.
He pitied their fear of trying
To escape gravity’s tax.
Confident he controlled the ending
But ignorant of the facts.
He learned nothing from Icarus’ failing
And screamed as the flames licked his flanks.
Ashes of feathers dancing,
Ashes of man and melting wax.
Arrogance and ambition burning
No match for the Sun’s fiery ax.
