What Words Make You Think of summer? by Fran Joyce

When you think of summer, which words come to mind? Most people would say sunshine, heat, sweat, green, swimming, playing, breezes, colorful, fresh, popsicles, picnics, fun, romance. Those are all good words for summer, but why not choose some beautiful words from around the world?

We have ten words for you to make summer even more interesting. Enjoy!

Abendrot – Noun. (Origin: German) The color of the sky while the sun is setting.

Apricate – Verb. (Origin: From the Latin, apricatus) To bask in the sun.

Estival – Adj. (Origin: Latin from the word, aestas) Belonging to or appearing in summer.

Heliophilia – Noun. (Origin: From the Greek words helios meaning sun and philia meaning fondness) The desire to stay in the sun. Heliophile - Someone who loves sunshine.

Samar – Noun. (Origin: Arabic) Staying up after the sun has gone down and having an enjoyable time with friends.

Seatherny – Noun. (Origin: English from the words se meaning serenity and ather meaning feather) The serenity one feels when listening to birds chirping.

Solasta – Adj. (origin: Scottish) Luminous, shining

Verdant – Adj. (Origin: From the Latin word viridis meaning green and the Old French word verdoier meaning to be green)  Shades of green found in growing plants.

Yeoubi – Noun (Origin: Korean)  Sun showers. Rain coming down while the sun is still shining.

Zeniprisma – Noun . (Origin: From Buddhism the word Zen meaning ultimate awareness and peace and the Latin word, prisma meaning something sawed) The heightened inner sense of awareness one feels while basking in sunshine.
