Redeem Your Sins by Thomas Fincham: A Review by Fran Joyce
For October, I reviewed Redeem Your Sins by Thomas Fincham.
Fincham has a graduate degree in Economics. He is an international traveler who has lived in several countries on different continents.
His love of mystery suspense novels inspired him to write one of his own. Now, he is the author of the Lee Calloway series, the Hyder Ali series, the Martin Rhodes series, The Jo Pullinger FBI series, and the Echo Rose series.
Fincham weaves a masterful story filled with action and suspense.
Martin Rhodes, the disgraced former police detective has paid for taking the law into his own hands, but it cost him ten years in prison and his badge. Now he's trying to make amends the only way he knows how, by solving crimes the police can't or won't.
His latest target is a nefarious group called the Archive.
Assisting Rhodes in his mission are a tech savvy former cop named Brody and Heidi Larson, a former assassin from the Archive with a target on her back.
His biggest challenge is figuring out who is and isn’t on the Archive’s payroll. Someone in the police force, district attorney’s office, and/or the mayor’s office is leaking information to the Archive to keep them one step ahead.
It infuriates Rhodes that Heidi keeps information about the Archive close to her chest refusing to share. He worries she could decide to return to the Archive, sell him out, or disappear altogether. What would it take to get her back in their good graces?
Rhodes has a friend/frenemy in the department, but can he be trusted?
When a serial killer known as the Chemist resurfaces, a young detective foolishly tries to play hero and pays with his life. When he was a detective on the force, Rhodes studied the Chemist and their victims. Rhodes is asked to consult on the case. Will he be able to figure out their identity and link them to the Archive before he becomes their next victim?
The Chemist has eluded capture for over twenty years. No one knows the gender of the serial killer or why they choose their victims. The police have also been unable to identify the poisons the Chemist uses, so they have no way to develop antidotes.
Just when you think Rhodes has met his match, the plot twists, and twists back, so you're never sure who will survive.
Fincham will keep you guessing until the end.
