For this month’s issue, we’ve combined “What’s in a Word” with our monthly quiz.
The Oxford Dictionary has 273,000 headwords.
Of these words, 171,476 of them are in current use, 47,156 words are obsolete, and around 9,500 derivative words are included as subentries.
How many of these words do you think you know? Most of us have never stopped to think what percentage of our vocabulary we actually use for conversation or correspondence. I love words and enjoy learning new and interesting words (check out Pinterest – you’ll be amazed how many people pin interesting words). I have pinned over 500 interesting words – I find at least one every day to add to my list.
Do you know these unusual words? How many have you heard or used? Match the word to its definition. Good luck!
Answers to this month’s quiz can be found in the last article of this issue or you can click on this link,
