March 2023 Reading Recommendations for Adults by Fran Joyce

This month, I selected books from several genres. When I was looking at new releases, many of these books stood out. For your reading pleasure, I have included historical fiction, non-fiction, romance, fantasy, suspense, a cookbook, and an exercise guide. Many of these books were written by women and contain strong female main characters. Enjoy!

Code Name : Lise by Larry Loftis – this is the true story of Odette Samson, a woman who became the most decorated spy of World War II.

Good for You by Camille Pagan – Aly has the career of her dreams, but when she overhears her co-workers belittling her, she has a meltdown. To repair the damage, Aly agrees to a take a little vacation. When she goes to the Lake Michigan beach house her brother, Luke, left her after his death a year ago, she discovers Luke left half to his slacker friend, Wyatt. Aly’s solution is to sell the beach house and split the profits, but Wyatt has other ideas.

The Exceptions: Nancy Hopkins, MIT, and the Fight for Women in Science by Kate Zernike – the true story of 16 female scientists who forced MIT to admit they had been discriminating against female faculty members for decades.

To Marry and to Meddle (Regency Book Vows 3) by Martha Waters – Lady Emily Turner and Lord Julian Belfry enter into a marriage of convenience with goals of their own. Soon, these goals begin to overlap and change as they discover an inconvenient path to falling in love.

Fevered Star by Rebecca Roanhorse – This is the sequel to Roanhorse’s highly successful fantasy of 2020, Black Sun. Welcome back to The Meridian where magic has been codified and the worship of gods suppressed. What happens when there’s a comet speeding through the heavens ready to destroy everything in its path? Book Two of the Between Earth and Sky Series.

The Wrath of Angels by John Connolly – Book 11 of 20 in the Charlie Parker Mystery Series – Deep in the Maine woods a wrecked planes is discovered. There are no signs of people and no record of the plane, but something of great value aboard the plane has  men racing to find it – a list of the names of men and women who have sold their souls to the devil. Charlie Parker fears his name may be on the list.

The Writing Retreat by Julia Bartz – Alex is considering giving up her dreams of being a published author until she receives an invitation to a writer’s retreat at the estate of a famous horror writer. Her rival, Wren also receives an invitation. The purpose of the retreat is simple, write a novel in one month and the best one wins a lucrative publishing deal.
