October 2022 Reading Recommendations for Adults by Fran Joyce

This month’s reading recommendations have a little something for everyone. Horror, mystery, romance, memoirs, and a Halloween cookbook. I have the latest horror story from Stephen King and a mystery classic by Dame Agatha Christie.

If you enjoyed the WB smash hit, Supernatural, you’ll love the opportunity to eat like a Winchester. Who is your favorite Winchester? Sam was always my favorite. Also, this month, I have three fall romances and two gripping memoirs. Enjoy!

Fairy Tale by Stephen King – A boy inherits the keys to a parallel universe where good and evil are in a battle of enormous importance for that world and our world as well.

Hallowe’en Party by Agatha Christie – A Hercule Poirot Mystery (Book 36) – Thirteen-year-old Joyce boasts at a Halloween party that she once witnessed a murder. When no one believes her, Joyce storms off only to be found hours later drowned in a tub for bobbing apples. Hercule Poirot is summoned to solve the mystery.

The Sundown Motel by Simone St. James – Viv Delaney wants to move to the Big Apple. To save up enough money, she takes a job as the night clerk at a local motel. When mysterious things start happening Viv disappears before she can find out what’s going on. Thirty-five years later, Carly can’t let go of the story about the mysterious disappearance of the aunt she never met. Can Carly solve the mystery, or will the Sundown Motel claim another victim?

Supernatural: The Official Cookbook by Julie Tremaine – Eat like Sam and Dean Winchester from the iconic WB hit series. If you are a fan of the show, you know the Winchesters loved to eat and roaming around the country as they did, they found some great diners/restaurants and cooked up some of their own favorites. What better way to welcome Halloween?

The Silent Wife by Kerry Fisher – Lara and her husband Massimo seemingly have the perfect life and a wonderful son. Lara knows a secret Massimo has been keeping that could destroy their lives which keeps her a prisoner in their marriage. Maggie is married to Nico, Massimo’s brother. Maggie thinks she is the keeper of the family’s darkest secret until she finds a letter in the attic that will change everything.

The Pale-Faced Lie by David Crow – Growing up on a Navajo reservation, David Crow and his three sibling idolized their father, but when David learned about his father’s violent past he was forced to participate in his father’s life of crime. Despite threats, intimidation and beatings, David managed to finish high school and college making a life for himself that did not include a life of crime. In a desperate and cruel act of revenge, David’s father forces him into a final showdown.

Finding Me: A Memoir by Viola Davis – From a crumbling apartment in Rhode Island, a little girl dreamed of becoming an actress and changing her fate. To make her dreams come true, Davis had to reinvent herself, but changes often come with a painful price tag. Davis examines her life warts and all in an intimate portrait of a little girl desperate for love and acceptance in a world that often turned a blind eye.

Fall into Temptation: A Small-Town Love Story (Blue Moon Book2) by Lucy Score – Gianna Decker is a single mom with two kids, a difficult ex, and a new yoga studio in a small town with nosy neighbors. That’s why she can’t possibly fall for her new landlord who’s also her neighbor. Can’t, shouldn’t, might, definitely could? What happens when a very bad idea becomes a possibly?
