Ivy's Yorkshire New Year by Thea Monk - A Review by Fran Joyce

Ivy’s Yorkshire New Year is a novella by Thea Monk. It is the second story in her series, A Small-Town Romance.

Ivy Lane returns to Settle, a small town in North Yorkshire for the first Christmas after the deaths of her parents in a tragic accident in South America.

She’s anxious to see her sister, Holly, but reluctant to admit she’s coming home to stay because of another failed romance and a stalled career.

In Settle, she will have her own business and be her own boss. It’s time for a change. When the train pulls into the station, Ivy is convinced a fresh start is just what she needs. Who knew she would walk straight into her first love, Daniel Beckham, the man who broke her heart?

Ivy learns Daniel is now a professor of Art History at the local university. She tries to avoid Daniel, but it’s an almost impossible task in a small town when her sister decides to play matchmaker and when you’ve just purchased the local coffee shop and bakery where everyone in Settle congregates to socialize over a perfectly brewed cup of coffee and fresh scones. To make matters worse, Daniel shows no inclination he wants to avoid seeing her.

Holly, who was named executor of their parents’ estate, must auction off more of their father’s paintings to pay the inheritance taxes on the family home. Julian Lane was a well-known artist. Ivy shared his passion for art (she was a promising artist at one time), so the paintings have special meaning to her. She and Daniel met when he was writing his thesis on Julian Lane’s painting technique. He’d been invited to stay with the family and watch the artist at work. The attraction between he and Ivy was immediate and powerful. Then, he was gone. Why had he suddenly decided she was too young?  Ivy’s broken heart had never really healed because there was no closure. After Julian’s death Daniel purchased several of his paintings and now, she will be bidding against him in the auction.

With the upcoming auction and Holly’s big Christmas Eve dinner party - Daniel’s name has “somehow” been added to the guest list, - will Ivy finally get the answers she needs to move on, or will she find love again? You’ll have to read the novella to find out.
